Ulum al-Quran: An Introduction to the Sciences of the Quran

The aim of this book  is to help reader gain a better understanding of the Quranic message by providing information on its setting, framework and circumstances. The author has only briefed touched on some topics such as  the divisions of the text, style, literary form etc., while more important topics have been dealt with in more detail, such as topics related to the understanding of the text (asbab an-nuzul, an-nasikh wa al-mansukh, etc.).

The author has taken care to draw special attention to topics relevant to the contemporary reader such as Orientalists and the Quran, translations of the Quran, modern interpretation of the Quran. language of the Qur’an, and the reading and recitation of the Quran.

The author restricts himself to presenting only the generally-accepted views on issues. He also quotes examples to illustrate the various points discussed and make them more easily comprehensible. To help aid the inquisitive reader, he includes a few books for further study for each section.

This is considered to be the earliest book on this subject in English.
